Final Fantasy VII Remake finally materializes today on Steam

Square Enix’s 25th anniversary livestream for Final Fantasy VII unfolded almost like a textbook for JRPG behemoths, beginning and ending with the two biggest news for PC gamers. First of all, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade leaves the exclusivity of Epic to bring his motorcycle to Steam today. Steam Deck compatibility was also touted, lucky beggars.

Then, after much messing around with mobile games and flashbacks, producer Yoshinori Kitase revealed footage from the second part of Remake, now known as Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Kitase also confirmed that the Final Fantasy VII Remake saga could be completed during our lives, thanks to Square Enix deciding to close it with a third part, still untitled. Gaze at Sephiroth’s broad shoulders from behind watching the trailer below.

Square Enix presented the first footage of the second part of Final Fantasy VII Remake: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

So what’s the catch? There’s always a catch with a Squenix stream like this, right? Well, there is no release window for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PC. The only time frame given during the broadcast was “next winter”, and that was for PS5. However, you can always spend the likely year and a half of waiting by playing the upcoming remaster of the old PSP-exclusive Action RPG Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, now suffixed with ‘Reunion’.

Katharine awarded a Best Bests in her Intergrade review of Final Fantasy VII Remake when the game appeared in late fashion on PC in December. “Nomura is taking this game in a bold and exciting new direction, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what kind of crazy nonsense she has in store for us,” she said. “There’s a very good chance that it all descends into the same kind of impenetrable nonsense as Nomura’s Kingdom Hearts series, but man alive, I want to have hope, you know?”

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade arrives on Steam today, June 17. I have no idea when Final Fantasy VII Rebirth or the third part of the newly dubbed Remake trilogy will appear on PC, but you can bet I’ll be over the top of my gauge by then.
