Monaco, September 23, 2022 OneWeb and Kymeta, the world’s leading flat panel antenna company, will present their joint superyacht offering at the Monaco Yacht Show with a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) antenna and connectivity combination designed specifically for superyachts.

OneWeb successfully tested its LEO connectivity with two Kymeta antennas in the sea off the coast of Monaco in late August. Pilot tests demonstrated high-speed connectivity with speeds of up to 200 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload to enable voice calls, streaming, and gaming with continuous, uninterrupted coverage. OneWeb’s global and mid-ocean connectivity eliminates the need to choose regional options or worry about changing service based on charter routes.

In addition to a ubiquitous connectivity experience at sea, other important considerations for superyacht owners include privacy, security, navigation, real-time maintenance and regulatory compliance, all of which require high speed (50+ Mbps ) and low latency (100 milliseconds or less). bottom) connectivity. OneWeb’s LEO connectivity now means online gaming platforms, cloud access, movie streaming and never missing an important game can be added to work and entertainment options on board.

As an enterprise-grade connectivity provider, OneWeb’s LEO connectivity also provides enhanced cyber security with end-to-end encryption. OneWeb’s service ensures that a superyacht’s captain and electrical officer can rely on a robust and secure connectivity experience for owners and guests.

On-board design is key and the antenna required for this high-speed connectivity does not need to be bulky. Kymeta’s exclusive high-bandwidth, low-power, fully integrated flat-panel antenna offers an exciting new option for yacht owners. Recent pilot testing also showed that Kymeta terminals can be installed on board in a matter of hours, not days, with just two people and without the need for cranes or specialized installation equipment.

OneWeb services will be available through OneWeb Certified Yacht Partners, who are experts in the LEO connectivity ecosystem, and will help captains deliver a true home connectivity experience: reliable, efficient and resilient no matter where they are. find in the sea. OneWeb will launch its superyacht service alongside Kymeta’s u8-based LEO terminal with first deliveries due to start in early 2023.

Carole Plessy, Vice President Maritime and Europe at OneWeb, He said: “Superyacht owners immediately understand that increased connectivity and technology enhance both safety, comfort and luxury on board. OneWeb offers terrestrial-grade connectivity from Space so owners and guests can connect anywhere at sea as easily and seamlessly as they would at home. We are excited to talk to yacht owners and captains about our LEO connectivity for superyachts at the Monaco Yacht Show for the first time.”

The superyacht trials are part of OneWeb and Kymeta’s joint commitment to develop and bring to market in early 2023 a unique u8-based dual LEO terminal offering that is particularly well-suited for applications aboard superyachts due to its easy installation and design. low profile.

Neville Meijers, Executive Vice President, Chief Strategy, Product and Marketing Officer, Kymeta, said: “We are very excited that the recent trials represent our first sea trial of superyachts. It’s an exciting new step forward for high-speed connectivity. By testing and launching an innovative LEO connectivity service for superyachts, we are delivering on our promise to provide customers, including superyacht owners, with unprecedented access to connectivity in areas where existing networks don’t reach.”
