LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Lake Creek capped off a perfect season with its first state championship and stayed atop the USA TODAY Sports/NFCA High School Super 25 for a 12th week.
The Lions (41-0) beat Rock Hill, 8-2, in last Friday’s Texas State 5A semifinals and then shut out Georgetown, 7-0, with junior Ava Brown’s one-hit shutout in the Saturday’s title game.
No. 2 Roncalli (32-0) can claim his own state crown when he takes on Harrison in Indiana’s Class 4A championship on Saturday. The Royals defeated both Pendleton Heights and Shelbyville last Saturday to advance in the tournament.
Undefeated schools Rockridge (35-0) and Monroe-Woodbury (24-0) moved up to sixth and seventh place, respectively, following Donovan Catholic’s shock loss in the New Jersey Tournament of Champions. Rockridge repeated as the Illinois 2A champion, becoming the first team in state history to compile back-to-back perfect seasons. Monroe-Woodbury won its regional game and will play Lancaster in New York State’s Class AA final four on Saturday.
Donovan Catholic (30-1), meanwhile, dropped to No. 8 following last Saturday’s 2-0 win over Mount St. Dominic for a third consecutive non-public A state title with a 6-1 loss to Haddon. Heights on Wednesday. The loss snapped the Griffins’ 48-game winning streak and stopped them within two wins of becoming the first New Jersey team to finish a season undefeated since 2014.
Elsewhere, No. 10 Oaks Christian (34-1) won their CIF SoCal Division I final, 6-5, over Roosevelt, Eastern Alamance (28-2) beat North Buncombe in North Carolina State North best of three. 3A, and No. 18 Lakota West (29-3) beat Springfield, 9-2, to capture their first Ohio State Division I title.
