Here are the weather forecasts for the next two days:

Friday (June 10)

  • Widespread showers with localized heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely over sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Assam.
  • Fairly widespread showers and storms are likely over Kerala, Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram,
  • Tripura and Lakshadweep. Localized heavy rains are possible along the Konkan coast. Higher altitudes in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim can also witness snow.
  • Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected over Maharashtra, Goa, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The influence of a north-south trough from the Sub-Himalayas of West Bengal to inland Odisha and strong southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal to Northeast India are likely to cause the following weather phenomena:

  • Widespread light to moderate rain with isolated heavy to very heavy rain over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayas of West Bengal, Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during the next five days.
  • Isolated extremely heavy rain over Arunachal Pradesh on Friday and Saturday, and over Assam and Meghalaya for the next five days.
  • Isolated or scattered showers with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal during the next five days.
  • Isolated heavy rain over Bihar today.

The influence of strong westerly to southwesterly winds along the west coast is likely to result in the following weather events:

  • Fairly widespread or widespread light to moderate precipitation with thunderstorms and lightning over Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep
  • Scattered to fairly widespread showers over Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Telangana over the next five days
  • Isolated heavy rain over southern inland Karnataka on Saturday, coastal Karnataka from June 10-13, and over Kerala and Mahe on Saturday and Sunday.

Consequently, the Indian Meteorological Department has put Assam and Meghalaya on a red warning (meaning “take action”) for Friday. Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh is on orange alert (meaning ‘be prepared’), while most of the rest of the country remains on yellow alert (meaning ‘be up to date’) for Friday.

Patchy heatwave conditions are very likely in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, southern Uttar Pradesh, northwestern Rajasthan, northern Madhya Pradesh, inland Odisha and Jharkhand on Friday.
