The 2022 MLB Draft is highlighted by a number of talented high school hitters; some with famous last names, some without.

It adds another level of intrigue to the spectacle that is the MLB Draft, scheduled to take place in Los Angeles from July 17-19.

High schoolers Druw Jones, Jackson Holliday, Elijah Green and Temarr Johnson are expected to hear their names early in this year’s draft. Along with established college players like Cal Poly shortstop Brooks Lee and former Vanderbilt ace and former Mets first-round pick Kumar Rocker, and it’s no surprise some pundits are heralding this year’s draft as one of the best in recent memory.

What channel is the MLB Draft on today?

The first round of the 2022 MLB Draft will be simulcast on two different channels: ESPN and MLB Network. After the first round, MLB Network will handle most of the Day 1 coverage.

Day 2 and Day 3 will be streamed on MLB.com.

ESPN

The world leader in sports is pulling out all the stops for the first round of the 2022 MLB Draft. Karl Ravech will host the event, along with lead MLB Draft analyst Kiley McDaniel. Meanwhile, MLB analysts Eduardo Pérez, Jessica Mendoza, Kyle Peterson and Chris Burke will report from the site in Los Angeles, as will MLB’s top pundit Jeff Passan.

MLB Network

MLB Network will air the top 80 picks of the 2022 MLB Draft. The network will feature a rich collection of personalities and pundits over the course of Day 1, with Greg Amsinger assuming host responsibilities. He will be joined by Scott Braun, Lauren Gardner, Dan O’Dowd and Harold Reynolds in the studio, as well as famed college coaches Tony Vitello (Tennessee) and John Savage (UCLA).

The network is also recruiting a team of prospects, including MLB Pipeline’s Jim Callis and Jonathan Mayo, and Baseball America’s Carlos Collazo, to break down each Day 1 pick.

To round out the coverage, MLB Network is reaching out to a host of people intimately involved in the game. Hall of Famers Trevor Hoffman and Greg Maddux will provide unique perspectives on the picks as they happen, as will former Angels manager Mike Scioscia and current college head coaches Danny Hall (Georgia Tech ), Dan McDonnell (Louisville) and Kirk Saarloos (TCU).

ESPN and MLB Network will carry the first round of the MLB Draft. Subsequently, MLB Network will have live coverage of all the action from Day 1 of the 2022 MLB Draft.

Day 2 and Day 3 will not be broadcast on television, although viewers can follow the live broadcast of the draft, which will be offered on MLB.com.

What time does the MLB Draft start today?

With 20 rounds to go, the MLB Draft is one of the longest draft events to take place. As a result, it is divided into three days of action. Here are the respective start times for each day of the event.

Day 1 of the MLB Draft will kick off All-Star Week. Since it’s only two rounds, they’ll get top billing on Sunday: The draft will start at 7 p.m. on July 17.

Day 2 and Day 3 contain the most picks in the 2022 MLB Draft. As a result, they start much earlier, at 2 p.m.

Day 3 should be the longest day as it contains 10 rounds. That should wrap up before the MLB All-Star Game, which is also scheduled for Tuesday night.

MLB Draft 2022 order of selections in Round 1

The Orioles are in possession of the first pick of the 2022 MLB Draft. They’ll be looking to add another top prospect to a farm system replete with them: The O’s have five prospects in the top 100, according to MLB Pipeline.

The last time Baltimore had the first overall pick, it took wide receiver Adley Rutschman from Oregon State. Perhaps GM Mike Elias can find another gem at the top of the draft and further accelerate Baltimore’s rebuild.
